Pathogen Portal is a repository linking to the Bioinformatics Resource Centers (BRCs) sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and maintained by The Virginia Bioinformatics Institute. I read an article years ago in Popular Science about smearing punji stakes with water buffalo excrement. A primitive, but effective, form of biowarfare.
I suppose that would fall in the realm of applied research for purposes of a topic map.
