Installing HBase over HDFS on a Single Ubuntu Box

I faced some issues making HBase run over HDFS on my Ubuntu box. This is a informal step-by-step guide from setting up HDFS to running HBase on a single Ubuntu machine.

You can also do this using Apache Whirr. Check this gist https://gist.github.com/1465747 It takes only a few minutes to provision and setup.
