expressor – Data Integration Platform

I ran across expressor while reading a blog entry that will be going through Facebook and Twitter data with it as integration software.

It has a community edition but apparently only runs on Windows (XP and Windows 7, there’s a smart move).

Before I download/install, any comments? Suggestions for other integration tasks?

Thanks!

Oh, the post that got me started on this: expressor: Enterprise Application Integration with Social Networking Applications. Realize that expressor is an ETL tool but sometimes that is what a job requires.

  1. Hello Patrick,

Thank you for mentioning the blog post. The various expressor solutions, the steps to build them and the completed samples will be posted here: http://community.expressor-software.com/ within the next couple of weeks. My plan is to make smaller digestible tutorials and posts that will clearly identify how it will be achieved.

The company blog lists it here:

You are correct, traditionally expressor can be used strictly as an ETL tool to move and massage data. However, its extensible platform and architecture allow it to be used for EAI and EII capabilities as well. Allowing even more problems to be solved and solutions to be developed with the same affordable software package.

If you visit http://michaeltarallo.com/stats-2/ you will see a Tableau Public dashboard displaying my site’s metrics. Under the covers is an expressor ETL dataflow feeding the datamart every hour. The dataflow is optimizing the data to be used by Tableau. This is your typical ETL use case that you may be familiar with, turning raw data into actionable information.

Can you please clarify what you mean by “Other Integration Tasks”?

Please reach out to me on Twitter at @mtarallo or @expressor or on my contact page here: http://michaeltarallo.com/contact-me/ if you would like to discuss this more.

  2. Michael, just a short response tonight, it has been a fairly long day! 😉

By other integration tasks I meant ones that time or other constraints render ETL to not be an option. Which would include treating the storage format or metadata of another system as first class data. Not something that is discarded.

    Better?

After I get some sleep I will try again.

Hope you are having a great week!

    Patrick
