Eugene Garfield’s homepage may not be familiar to topic map fans but it should be.
Garfield invented citation indexing in the late 1950’s/early 1960’s.
Among the treasures you will find here:
- Citation Indexing — Its Theory and Application in Science, Technology, and Humanities (full text, 1979)
- Essays of an Information Scientist – Eugene Garfield (Volumes 1-15 : Contents pages and Full Text)
- Papers on Algorithmic Historiography
One of the great things about Garfield’s homepage is that he has put so much source material, which should be a starting point for reading on indexing and citation indexing, within easy reach. Being easy to reach does not equal all that is worthy of reading or remembering.
